New Shooters Checklist
All new members to any SADPA club have to undergo the New Shooters Orientation.
This is a +/-4-6 hour orientation by a Safety Officer
to inform the new member of basic safety rules and explain some of the more intrigual rules of Defensive Pistol. After completing
such orientation to the satisfaction of the Safety Officer, the member may participate in a clubshoot. At JDPC, we will allocate any
new shooter a "big-brother", to assist him with his first shoot. This puts the new member at ease and can get further explanations
from such "big brother" about the sport. A copy of the New Shooters Orientation is available for download - here.
Before stepping on to the range, the basic equipment must be correct eg. holster; mag pouches; concealment jacket; safety glasses
and ear muffs (according to IDPA Rules). The shooter carries the spare ammunition and goodies in a shooting bag. It is always good
to have some liquids to prevent dehydration. A sports cap is recommended to assist with prevention of sunburn and keep the sun out
of your eyes. If you want to carry all the baggage around, a chair comes in handy on a long day's shooting.
Requirements to Participate
The Requirements to participate before any shoot, is the satisfactory completion of the New Shooters Orientation. It is then required
that a Classifier be shot, before participation in a SADPA League. You are required to participate in 2 x SADPA Leagues and have shot
a Classifier in the preceding 12 months to participate in the Africa Championships.
